Overview

When looking for information about breast cancer, one often encounters dense, scientific articles that can be challenging to comprehend, given the abundance of technical terminology. Recognizing this gap, AstraZeneca identified an opportunity to solve this problem. They approached us with a unique challenge: to design an interactive platform that offers a comprehensive exploration of breast cancer within the human body.

Challenge

Breast cancer patients frequently encounter significant challenges in comprehending the complexities of their condition because there aren't enough visual materials that show what the disease does to their bodies. This problem makes it tough for them to talk about what they're going through with others and to really get what's happening to them. This can make them more anxious, feel alone, and even make it hard for them to make smart choices about their treatment. It's really important to fix this by giving them the right tools and information so they can handle their diagnosis better and talk about it with the people who support them and their doctors.

Key insights

Together with another agency we conducted user interviews, did usability tests and more to get a better understanding of the topic and problems.

Fragile topic

Since it’s a very fragile topic, and the goal is to visualize the topic - it was important to support and help the target audience - rather then scaring them.

Multiple stages

Breast cancer has multiple stages and naming conventions. Therefore it’s important to create a clear and easy to navigate structure that facilitates all these conventions and stages.

Understandable

The main user was the patient, but another important one is the people around the patient. The topic needed to be not only understandable for the patient, but also for the people around them - so they could get a better understanding of the situation and illness.

Approach

Based on the insights, I created a visual representation of what is happening in your body with treatment options, articles and testimonials. In this interactive platform you can go through the different stages of breast cancer, look into articles that are relevant to you and bookmark them.
